Arlington Funeral Services
What to Expect on the Day
The day of the funeral can feel emotional and uncertain — but you will not be alone. At Arlington Funeral Services, we take care of every step with dignity, professionalism and compassion, allowing you to focus on remembrance and reflection.

Step 1 — Meeting Point or Family Home
Our team will arrive at the agreed location — this may be your home, the home of your loved one, or another chosen meeting point. If a cortege has been arranged, the funeral director may lead on foot as a mark of respect. From the very first moment, we will guide you calmly and respectfully.
Step 2 — The Funeral Procession
The hearse will lead the way, followed by family and guests in limousines or private vehicles. If you would like, the route may pass meaningful places such as a former home, place of work or favourite location. We will keep you informed of timings and ensure everything runs smoothly.
Step 3 — Arrival at the Venue
When you arrive, our team will be there to welcome and guide you. Pallbearers — whether family members, friends, or our own staff — will carry the coffin with care into the chapel, church or venue. Any flowers, photographs or keepsakes will be placed thoughtfully to reflect your loved one’s life.
Step 4 — The Funeral Service
This is a moment for reflection and remembrance. The service may include readings or poems, tributes and eulogies, music or hymns (religious or non-religious), and prayers or moments of silence. Whether traditional or modern, religious or secular, we ensure every detail — from seating to music — is arranged with care so you can focus on the occasion itself.
Step 5 — The Committal
For Cremations, the committal usually takes place within the crematorium chapel. There may be a short moment of farewell, with words, prayers or quiet reflection. Curtains may close — or remain open — depending on your wishes. For Burials, the committal takes place at the graveside. Final words may be spoken before the coffin is lowered. Some families choose to place flowers, soil or personal items as a final tribute. We will ensure this moment is handled gently and respectfully.
Step 6 — Leaving the Venue
Guests are invited to leave calmly and respectfully. Some may pause to view floral tributes or speak with the family. We will make sure everyone has the time and space they need before departing.
Step 7 — Wake or Gathering
Many families choose to meet afterwards to share stories and celebrate the life of their loved one. This may be held at home, in a local venue or community space. If needed, we can provide recommendations and support with planning.
Step 8 — After the Funeral
Our care does not end when the service is over. We can continue to help with collecting ashes (following cremation), guidance on memorials, urns and tributes, returning medical equipment, support with paperwork or probate, and signposting bereavement services and local help. We remain here for you — now and in the days ahead.
